Tuition fees

In public higher education institutions students from EU member states, like Slovenian students, pay tuition fees for first and second cycle part-time studies, while full-time studies are free.

For doctoral (third-cycle) studies tuition fees are paid. Under certain conditions these studies can be subsidised by public funds, thus the tuition fee is correspondingly lower. Foreigners from non-EU member countries pay tuition fees regardless of the mode of studies. Students in private higher education institutions also pay tuition fees.

Foreign students do not pay any tuition fees or they pay tuition fees equivalent to Slovene students if:

  • it is so determined in an international or bilateral agreement,
  • they have acquired scholarship from one of authorised performers (CMEPIUS, Slovene human resources development and scholarship fund),
  • they are students of exchange programmes between higher education institutions within Lifelong Learning programme,
  • they are foreign citizens with permanent residence in the Republic of Slovenia and they (or their parents) are tax-payers.
