Higher Education in Slovenia

Studies are provided by public and private universities, faculties, art academies and professional colleges. Universities, faculties and art academies may provide all types of study programmes, while professional colleges may provide, as a rule, the first cycle professional study programmes, but also the second cycle programmes when meeting certain special requirements.
Higher education in Slovenia is regulated by the Higher Education Act
(Official Gazette, No. 119/06 – officially consolidated text, No. 59/07) and different inferior regulations.

Outstanding performance of students of international law from the Ljubljana law faculty at a prominent world student Philip C. Jessup Moot Court Competition in Washington, DC. This year’s competition saw more than 600 teams apply, with 127 teams securing a place in the competition, and the Slovenian team finished in third place, thereby emerging as the best team from Europe! Videolectures.net is a project being carried out at the Jožef Stefan Institute within the Centre for the Transfer of IT Knowledge and in cooperation with the Technology Section at the Jožef Stefan Institute. 90 Years of the University of Ljubljana
The University of Ljubljana, Slovenia's oldest higher education institution in December 2009 celebrated the 90th anniversary of its founding. The reasons behind the relatively late founding of Slovenia's first university are to be found in the unfavourable historical circumstances. (December 2009)
